Multi-million-dollar Adelaide Airport terminal upgrade begins

The first sod has been turned on a multi-million-dollar expansion of Adelaide Airport.

The terminal upgrade which begins today will see international arrivals and departure areas expanded to include more retail and dining options for travellers.

Security will also be boosted, with an expanded screening area for international travellers and more space for emigration and immigration processing.

As part of the expansion, the retail presence at the airport is set to be boosted.

Airport director Mark Young said disruptions to everyday terminal services are expected to be minimal.

Management says the boost will bring a more than 80 percent increase in size to the terminal’s shopping and dining precinct.

Adelaide Airport $165 million terminal expansion gets green light

Adelaide Airport has announced a $165 million expansion of its main terminal to significantly upgrade international arrivals and departures, and create more retail and dining options for both domestic and international travellers.

The project completion date is 2021. International upgrades will include a second, longer baggage belt for arrivals, more space for emigration and immigration processing, expanded security screening, a larger duty free precinct for arrivals and departures, and expanded dining and retail options.

The expansion will also see a complete refurbishment of retail areas, resulting in a more than 80 per cent increase in the overall size of the terminal’s retail and dining precinct across domestic and international areas.
