Abuja airport records 1.02m passengers in first qaurte – FAAN

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), says that no fewer than 1.02 million passengers travelled through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja during the first quarter of 2018.

FAAN’s First Quarter Report obtained by the News, on Monday, in Abuja showed a 38.9 per cent growth from 623,727 recorded during the same quarter in 2017.

Nigeria news reports that the growth recorded could not be unconnected to the closure of the airport between March 8 and April 19, 2017 for the rehabilitation of its runway.

The report indicated that 822,059 passengers travelled within the country (domestic passengers), while 199,925 passengers traveled out of and into Nigeria (international passengers) during the period.

It also said that 481,997 passengers were recorded at arrivals while 539,987 passengers were recorded at the departures during the period.

The monthly breakdown showed that 339,452 passengers comprising 263,625 domestic and 75,827 international passengers were recorded in January.

In February, 303,571 passengers comprising 248,863 domestic and 54,698 international passengers were recorded while 378,881 passengers comprising 309,571 domestic and 69,310 international passengers were recorded in March.

The report further revealed that there were 16,254 aircraft movements during the period as against the 9,956 aircraft movements recorded during the first quarter of 2017, showing a growth of about 42 per cent.

The report showed that 10,406 aircraft movements were recorded on domestic routes and 2,144 on international route.

In January, there were 5,278 aircraft movements, 5,422 in February and 5,702 in March.

The report further disclosed that 866,664 tons of cargo was recorded on international flights comprising 801,144 tons on arrivals and 65,520 tons on departures during the period.

It also showed a 65.9 per cent growth from the 522,145 tons recorded in the first quarter of 2017.

BAC seeking proposals to operate F&B and retail offerings at Brisbane Airport

Brisbane Airport Corporation (BAC) has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) from premium fashion, gift and accessories retail operators as part of a A$40m (US$29.7m) redevelopment of its Domestic Terminal at Brisbane Airport, Australia.

The RFP covers 18 concessions across the Level 2 departures area, each measuring between 35m2 (377ft2) and 204m2 (2,195ft2). These key locations will be complemented by a number of new food and beverage offers including iconic restaurants and bars along the glass overlooking the tarmac, plus a modern refurbished Qantas café court. The RFP will close at 16:00pm AEST on August 30, 2018.

BAC completed stage one of the retail redevelopment to the Domestic Terminal in June 2016, with a A$15m (US$11m) upgrade of the Virgin area. This saw the introduction of 19 new retail concessions including an upgraded food and beverage offering.

In January 2019, BAC will assume entire operational control across the terminal to create a single terminal with common systems. This transition will be the catalyst for stage two including a A$40m (US$29.7m) upgrade of the Domestic Terminal and retail offerings in the northern (Qantas end) and central areas of the terminal.

Works are scheduled to commence in late 2018 and when complete will deliver 51 new and refurbished stores with new retail offers, taking the total retail shops in the terminal to 70 outlet.

Aeropuertos españoles: análisis de las cifras de pasajeros (enero a mayo, 2018)

Las cifras de pasajeros que transitaron por todos los aeropuertos españoles de la red de AENA aumentaron el 7,29% respecto de los cinco primeros meses del año 2017. Este periodo refleja correctamente la tendencia del año ya que a la comparación no le afecta la semana en que la Semana Santa cayera.

En valores absolutos, las cifras han crecido en 6.450.849 pasajeros. En cuanto a los pasajeros con origen y/o destino nacional, han crecido en 3.468.097; los de origen y/o destino un país de la Unión Europea, lo han hecho en 1.925.018 y, finalmente, los de fuera de la Unión Europea en 1.057.734.

Lo mas destacado es la pérdida de participación en el mix de pasajeros de los de la Unión Europea en 1,8 puntos porcentuales y la practica igualdad en el de los de fuera de la Unión Europea (+0,2 p.p.). El pasajero nacional repunta 1,6 p. p.

Respecto de los aeropuertos canarios solo señalar que en estos cinco primeros meses del año 2018, en comparación con el año anterior, se observa una caída de tráfico procedente de la Unión Europea que suponen  211.114 pasajeros menos; en los de procedencia de fuera de la Unión Europea sucede lo mismo pues caen en valores absolutos en 11.726.

También sucede en las Islas Baleares un decrecimiento del tráfico de procedencia de fuera de la Unión Europea en 11.013 pasajeros.

Kerala’s Kannur international airport set to become operational in September

In a significant boost to tourism and the huge non-resident community in the north Malabar region, Kerala’s fourth international airport at Kannur is set to become operational by September. With the opening of the Kannur International Airport, Kerala will have four international airports. The state already has airports at Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi, and Kozhikode.
