Toulouse Blagnac Airport: Chinese consortium sells; French companies wait

Four years ago in 2015 a consortium of two Chinese companies (CASIL Europe) secured a majority stake – but not overall control – in Toulouse Blagnac Airport, France’s sixth busiest, despite widespread concern throughout the country that major French companies were overlooked. There was clearly political interest in the transaction.

CASIL is the acronym for China Airport Synergy Investment Limited. CASIL Europe is a joint venture that includes the Chinese state-owned group Shandong Hi-Speed Group and Hong Kong-based investment company Friedmann Pacific Asset Management; it took a 49.99% stake in Toulouse Airport in France through a French-registered company of that name.

But the government retained a 10% stake and it is equally clear it isn’t going to sell it. While the consortium has honoured its pledges, investing in the airport and growing passenger traffic, it has decided enough is enough and will now sell its stake.

Waiting in the wings are the unsuccessful bidders from the initial privatisation.

México: El Aeropuerto de Santa Lucía podría estar listo en 2 años y medio

La Cámara Nacional de Aerotransportes (Canaero) sí ve viable que la actual administración pueda entregar las obras del Aeropuerto de Santa Lucía en dos años y medio como se ha propuesto, aseguró Alejandro Alonso, presidente de la Cámara Nacional de Aerotransportes (Canaero).

El directivo puso como ejemplo el Aeropuerto de Toluca, que se tuvo en un menor tiempo respecto de lo planteado para Santa Lucía. “Toluca estuvo listo en su momento en menos tiempo que eso, aunque ese aeropuerto ya tenía una terminal de aviación general”.

Explicó que como parte de su agenda de trabajo al frente de la Canaero, se analizará con las autoridades cómo se realizará la migración de las aerolíneas hacia Santa Lucía.

Cabe señalar que la Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transportes ha notificado que este año iniciarán los trabajos del desarrollo del Aeropuerto de Santa Lucía, y se trabaja en los estudios que permitan la operación simultanea entre ese aeropuerto, el de la Ciudad de México y el de Toluca.

Carlos Morán, subsecretario de Transportes, adelantó que el 11 de febrero se le presentará al presidente López Obrador el avance del proyecto del Aeropuerto de Santa Lucía. “En los espacios aéreos se está trabajando en ver cuáles son las mejores opciones de rutas de aproximación para los tres aeropuertos”.

$115 million expansion project announced for Fresno airport

Big changes are coming to Fresno Yosemite International Airport.

On Thursday, officials announced a $115 million expansion project.

Officials tell me the airport is bursting at the seams and this expansion project can’t come soon enough.

Every year the airport seems to break new records for the amount of travelers that come through the terminals.

«We’re continuing to experience significant growth and we are foretasted to this growth trend and are looking to the future so this is why we’re looking forward to expand these facilities,» said spokesperson Vikki Calderon.

Beginning in early 2021, the airport will break ground on its biggest expansion project ever – one that will include an upper-level concourse as well as a new international arrivals facility and a three story parking garage.

Completion is expected by the fall of 2022.

«The project will be covered by airport revenue sources,» Calderon said.

Airport officials say FYI has experienced 45 percent growth in passenger traffic since 2010 and each year continues to outpace previous numbers.

«It’s an exciting great time and we’ve got the finances to expand the terminal the parking facilities and its just going to be more and more convenient,» said Fresno councilmember Paul Caprioglio.

Caprioglio worked closely with airport officials to get the project off the ground.

The expansion program is expected to generate $182 million in economic activity.

«We’re getting larger aircraft, more frequent flights, economic stimulus for the area, millions of dollars generated by the airport and the airport is self-sustaining.

The money they generate stays in the airport to allow for this continuous growth.

The project will also expand security checkpoints and add concession space to the airport.

Bulgaria extends deadline again for Sofia airport tender

Bulgaria has delayed the deadline for bids to run Sofia’s airport for a fourth time to April 3, the transport ministry said on Friday, after potential bidders asked for more time. 

The ministry has repeatedly offered extensions from the original Oct. 22 deadline for the 35-year concession. 

The centre-right government relaunched the tender for Bulgaria’s main air hub in July and wants to raise 550 million euros ($630 million) from the deal.
