En junio abrirá nueva terminal y estacionamiento en el Aeropuerto de Santiago de Chile

Para junio está proyectada la inauguración de nueva infraestructura del proceso de expansión del Aeropuerto de Santiago. Nos referimos a la apertura de espigón E y de más de 1.500 estacionamientos. La obra de la nueva zona de embarque que se abrirá a mediados de este año tiene un 75% de avance y su diseño está inspirado en la Región de Los Lagos, con un predominante color azul, informó El Mercurio. Se encuentra al lado poniente del terminal.

Nuevo Pudahuel destacó que el espigón E presenta adelantos en la instalación de techumbres y que ya comenzó el montaje de las fachadas. Asimismo, se está avanzando en la instalación de paneles de vidrio y fibrocemento, además de las cubiertas de los pre-puentes. La fachada de esta obra equivale a 1,3 canchas de fútbol.

El espigón tendrá puentes de embarque dobles que permitirá tener a 12 aviones en posición para realizar sus operaciones. Contará con 370 metros de cintas de desplazamiento y estará distribuido salas técnicas y salones VIP en el primer piso, circulación de pasajeros para llegadas internacionales en 2º piso y salas de embarque y comercio en el tercero. En total son 26.700 metros cuadrados de obras.

Estado actual de las obras

Grupo Argos presentó una propuesta de iniciativa privada para ampliación del aeropuerto El Dorado

 Grupo Argos presentó ante la Agencia Nacional de Infraestructura, ANI, un proyecto de nueva ampliación del aeropuerto El Dorado. Una iniciativa privada que permita expandir la actual capacidad aérea, construir un segundo terminal y cuando sea necesario, construir el segundo aeropuerto.

“Estamos poniendo a consideración del Gobierno nacional una iniciativa privada para ampliar la capacidad del aeropuerto El Dorado, para hacer una inversión relevante que puede superar los 2 billones de dólares, o sea 2 mil millones de dólares”, dijo Jorge Mario Velásquez, presidente de Grupo Argos.

El tráfico aéreo creció 7 por ciento en 2018. Hoy El Dorado tiene una capacidad de cerca de 40 millones de pasajeros al año.

“Pero necesitamos proyectar un terminal para ser capaz de movilizar 70 o 75 millones de pasajeros. Y este grupo está estructurando y presentando una iniciativa privada que le permita al país considerar, primero, expandir el aeropuerto en el sitio actual que aprovecha todas las sinergias con lo que ya tiene: vías de acceso que habrá que reforzar, instalaciones eléctricas de gas de toda la infraestructura que se tiene. Y un poco, desplazar en el tiempo la construcción del segundo aeropuerto”, sostuvo Velásquez.

Ghana’s Kotoka International Airport to commence expansion works

The Kotoka International Airport (KIA) in Ghana is set commence its expansion works on the North Apron and the Ghana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) headquarters.

The Minister of Aviation, Mr. Kofi Adda, confirmed the reports and said that the project was in line with the government’s plan to make Ghana an aviation hub within West Africa, and a destination of choice for travelers.

The minister further added that the expansion works on the two Aviation Projects would begin as soon as the groundbreaking ceremony is performed by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

KIA infrastructure projects

Expansion works of the airport will include undergo construction of terminal 3 that now has the capacity to process 1,250 passengers at peak times, and upgrading of infrastructure projects so as to reduce the traffic flow with key roads at the KIA dualized.

An overpass will also be constructed that will help ease the traffic. Mr. Adda added that there are plans to introduce a light train that would transport passengers from the terminals at an advanced stage.

According to Mr. Adda, construction of a modern GCAA headquarters which is the country’s aviation regulator would enable the body to execute its mandate effectively. Construction of the headquarters is part of the government’s key strategic program of changing the aviation industry.

Ongoing aviation project

Meanwhile, other projects that are still on progress include construction of phase two of the Kumasi Airport. The expansion encompasses the extension of the current length of the runway from 1,981m to 2,300m. An additional two new apron parking stands of 17,500 m2 are also under construction.

Phase two of Tamale airport is also undergoing a redevelopment which will comprise of a terminal which will cater for passenger travel processes and services, as well as hosting a cargo village. As of 2017, KIA handled an approximately 2.29 million passengers and 39,217 aircraft movements.

R7-billion upgrade plans for Cape Town airport

James Vos, Mayoral Committee Member For Economic Opportunities and Asset Management, delivered a speech at the FEDHASA Networking Event outlining some of the plans ahead for Cape Town, including a R7-billion airport upgrade over the next five years and a Draft Tourism Development Framework that will soon be up for public comment.

Vos discussed the Air Access initiative which the City is providing funding for in partnering with Wesgro. Since 2015, this initiative has contributed to landing 13 new routes and 18 route expansions, doubling the international seat capacity to 1.5-million, and growing international passenger numbers by 20% in 2017.

Vos also mentioned plans to further the upgrades made at the Cape Town International Airport, stating there is no better time for an upgrade. Several key infrastructural projects are planned for the next five years, including a new realigned runway, refurbishment of the Domestic Arrivals Terminal and expansion of the International Terminal.

The runway alone accounts for R3.93-billion of the budget investment. In its current position, the runway is too close to the Terminal building, and once realigned will allow for future terminal expansion as well as increase the the number of aircraft landings per hour and departures from 30 to 45 aircraft movements.

The airport will also be able to handle the New Generation Large aircrafts such as the Boeing 747-800 or A380, but the runway is not being built specifically for this aircraft.

President Cyril Ramaphosa’s roll-out plans for e-Visas were also mentioned in Vos’ speech, which he said will make it easier for visitors to apply for South African visas and visit our city and bring more tourism opportunities.
