The Virgin Islands Port Authority (VIPA) invites the public to a design charrette to discuss the concept and design plans for the expansion of the Cyril E. King Airport Terminal (CEKA). It will be held at 5:30 p.m. (this is a time change), Tuesday, June 26, in the University of the Virgin Islands’ Sports and Fitness Center on St. Thomas. It will be hosted by Port Authority officials and its aviation consultant, Kimley-Horn and Associates.
VIPA announced its plan to redesign and expand the CEKA Terminal in March. This charrette is the first of several public meetings that it will host to seek public input prior to the completion of the design. The new terminal will have the capacity to accommodate the significant growth in air arrivals to St. Thomas since the existing terminal was constructed in 1989.
The project scope includes:
The redesign, expansion and modernization of the interior of the terminal to make best use of the two floors of the terminal and the installation of jet bridges;
Construction of a multi-level parking garage to increase parking spaces;
Designated areas for taxis, rental cars and other ground transportation;
Additional lounge and concession spaces to provide more eateries, retail stores and contemporary traveler amenities;
