The first sod has been turned on a multi-million-dollar expansion of Adelaide Airport.
The terminal upgrade which begins today will see international arrivals and departure areas expanded to include more retail and dining options for travellers.
Security will also be boosted, with an expanded screening area for international travellers and more space for emigration and immigration processing.
As part of the expansion, the retail presence at the airport is set to be boosted.
The airport’s retail, dining, security and boarding areas will almost double in size after the construction. (9NEWS)
Airport director Mark Young said disruptions to everyday terminal services are expected to be minimal.
Management says the boost will bring a more than 80 percent increase in size to the terminal’s shopping and dining precinct.
